Description:

MATERNITY SERVICES - SWANSEA BAY UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD

The Midwifery Service at Swansea Bay has ambitious plans for its future. Under the direction of its Head of Midwifery, the service is progressing a transformation programme centred upon the development and opportunities for its maternity workforce, promoting service improvements through prevention, safety, learning and quality, improving women’s choice and the personalisation of care. We are looking for experienced midwives with an interest in developing their skills, knowledge and expertise to transform these ambitions into a sustainable, inspiring and achievable reality.
The Community Midwifery Team Manager Role
These are exciting opportunities for experienced midwives to develop and enhance their knowledge and expertise.
We are offering applicants the opportunity to choose between applying for either a permanent post or a six month secondment. Applicants who choose to apply for a six month secondment will require the support of their Line Manager.
To support individuals in the Team Manager role, a bespoke development package has been designed, centred around the unique Community Midwifery Team Manager job description.
The bespoke development package will include 5 core elements.
Leadership
Operational Management
Quality, governance, and safe services
Role specific knowledge and core proficiency
Communication
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to individualise the package based on their own specific development needs.
The team at Swansea Bay understand that the foundations for positive health and well-being start with positive experiences in pregnancy, birth and the early days of childhood. With this in mind, the service is dedicated to delivering person-centred, safe and high quality care for mothers and babies throughout pregnancy, birth and immediately following birth.
Maternity services in Swansea Bay are organised across Singleton and Neath Port Talbot hospitals, with dedicated Birth centres in both locations, a Labour ward at Singleton hospital and support from highly skilled Community teams supporting antenatal, community based intrapartum and postnatal care.
The Health Board currently finds itself in an exciting position, with the ambition to transform Maternity Services for the region, and is looking to appoint into newly developed Community Team Manager Roles who can develop and oversee the delivery of a range of measures building upon safety, choice and support for the population we serve. As senior midwives within community services, the roles will provide professional and clinical leadership to their teams, demonstrating high levels of compassion, trust and support, to promote a democratic and collaborative leadership style which role models the values of the Health Board and creates an inspiring platform for engagement and innovation.
These exciting roles are designed to harness midwifery specific skill and expertise and will be instrumental in the successful re-establishment of the Freestanding Midwifery Unit in Neath Port Talbot hospital.
The Welsh Government “Maternity Care in Wales - a Five Year Vision for the future” provides a clear route map of the agreed priorities for Unit and Community services to achieve, including the provision of,
Family centred care
Safe and effective care
Continuity of carer
Skilled multi-professional teams
Sustainable quality services
