Description:
BCIT’s Human Resources department is seeking a temporary, full time (1.0 FTE) Compensation Analyst who will support the delivery of compensation programs and services, with an emphasis on carrying out a wide range of compensation-related data analysis. Performs job analysis, conducts preliminary job evaluation assessments and participates in salary surveys. Assists with annual salary review/adjustment processes and administration. Supports the implementation and maintenance of an electronic and records management for the Compensation department. Carries out updates to job status information in human resources information system (HRIS).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Carries out job analysis assessments for support staff positions, involving collection and analysis of job content information, reviewing job descriptions, applying job evaluation methodology, and documenting findings and recommendations.
- Completes external salary surveys by matching internal jobs to survey benchmarks and providing corresponding compensation information. Designs and conducts ad-hoc salary surveys and research to gather comparator data for internal jobs.
- Supports Compensation Committee work by gathering information, reviewing employee information, conducting analysis, and preparing summaries/materials to support Committee decisions. Communicates Committee decisions and responds to related inquiries.
- Carries out a wide range of compensation-related data, job structure and costing analysis. Documents findings, summarizes information and makes recommendations upon which compensation decisions will be based.
- Assists in implementing bargained compensation and job related revisions to collective agreements.
- Assists with annual performance-based salary review and adjustment processes and related implementation activities.
- Implements and maintains electronic and other records management for the Compensation department, including documentation related to organizational charts, job descriptions, job identifications and job evaluations.
- Provides information and responds to queries regarding compensation policies, processes, and the application of compensation language in the collective agreement.
- Carries out designated tasks to support the department, such as drafting training or communication materials relating to compensation programs and changes.
- Researches best practices in compensation. Provides input into development and streamlining of compensation policy and processes. Engages in a variety of compensation initiatives, carrying out project elements as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources;
- Enrolment in compensation-related coursework leading to a professional designation (e.g., CCP) would be an asset.
- Minimum three years’ experience in human resources, including involvement in or supporting the compensation functional activities.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of the concepts, theories, principles and practices of compensation, with an emphasis on job evaluation, salary surveys, and job hierarchy structures.
- Solid research and analysis skills with demonstrated ability to carry out cost analysis.
- Strong communication skills with ability to articulate matters such as job design impacts, compensation policies and processes, and on compensation-related topics.
- Strong excel skills to be able to compile, analyse and summarize data.
- Strong analytical skills to be able to review and investigate job related data, information and changes.
- Solid business writing skills with ability to develop and relay clear, concise and accurate information.
- Familiarity with collective agreements, with an aptitude to understand and explain language pertaining to compensation.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to plan and execute assignments independently.
- Proficiency with standard HRIS systems and applications, with emphasis on the ability to understand process and dataflow interconnectivities.
