Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Compensation and Benefits Specialist coordinates the employee compensation and benefits programs, ensuring that the salary program is fair and competitive, that employees are paid accurately, and that the wide array of benefits programs are managed effectively and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards. The Comp/Ben Specialist will also collect, compile, and analyze HR data, metrics, and statistics, and apply this data to make recommendations related to recruitment, retention, and legal compliance.

Responsibilities:

Specifically, the responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Administer employee insurance programs including life, disability, and health insurance plans
  • Administer the company’s 401(k) plan
  • Advise and inform employees of changes and developments related to benefits including eligibility, coverage, and provisions
  • Facilitate accurate and timely delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to carriers, plan administrators, or other appropriate service providers
  • Process employee terminations and ensure compliance with final pay & benefit laws as applicable
  • Assist Accounting team with monthly benefit reconciliation for any enrollment and billing changes.
  • Assist with selection of carriers and plans based on quotes, available benefits, and prior experience
  • Monitor administrators’ and insurance carriers’ reports to ensure the organization’s compliance with plan requirements
  • Ensure compliance with the applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA
  • Maintain knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, and other factors related to ensure the organization provides competitive and reasonable benefits and compensation scales and structures; recommend improvements when necessary
  • Ensure that employee records and payroll entries are accurate and kept up to date, that reports are prepared in a timely manner, that the annual merit process is handled accurately and efficiently, and that sensitive employee data is adequately protected
  • Assist with payroll functions; process garnishments, update deduction changes, and complete end of pay period timecard review and pre-processing payroll review
  • Assist with classification audits to ensure that jobs are properly classified as exempt or nonexempt
  • Complete records, reporting, and other documentation required by federal, state, and provider rules, regulations, and policies
  • Collect and compile HR metrics and data from a variety of sources including the human resource information system (HRIS) and payroll outputs, management and employee surveys, exit interviews, employment records, government labor statistics, competitors’ practices, and other sources
  • Prepare reports of data results, present and explain findings to senior leadership
  • Work with HRBP on FMLA/CFRA requests, ADA accommodation requests, and other leave requests
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years’ experience, or the equivalent education and experience
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred, or ability to obtain certification within 1 year
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and compensation, and current labor laws
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge of 401(k), COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA requirements
  • Ability to operate and use a PC computer, proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs
