EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 5+ years working in a FinTech environment, ideally in payments and/or crypto space.
  • 3+ Financial Crime/AML experience.
  • Strong KYC/AML background and investigations experience.
  • Experience with STR reporting.
  • Experience with AUSTRAC and AFSL registration process & dealing with local regulators.
  • Familiarity with AFCA processes.
  • CAMS, ICA or other AMLCFT certifications is a plus.
  • Experience of creating rules and controls.
  • Experience working with third party vendors.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with senior stakeholders and presenting topics in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong analytical mindset - adept at using data and analytics to identify patterns, trends, and potential vulnerabilities, and use such information to make data-driven decisions.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of ‘FinTech and Crypto’.

Responsibilities:

OVERALL ROLE PURPOSE

The Compliance Manager will be responsible for ensuring that Wirex Australia achieves and maintains compliance with its AUSTRAC and future AFSL obligations in Australia. This is a mid-level role working closely with the APAC head of compliance to coordinate the licensing and compliance efforts in Australia, therefore we are looking for someone who has experience in regulatory and AMLCFT/financial crime compliance, who is an independent self-starter and someone who can deal with the regulators and external counsel.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Support the APAC Compliance team with AUSTRAC Registration compliance and AFSL license applications, including liaising with external legal counsel and the relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain oversight of the Financial Crime and Compliance program for Australia.
  • Conduct regular horizon scanning and insights on local regulatory developments.
  • Support the AMLCFT team on investigations, transaction monitoring and filing SMRs with AUSTRAC.
  • Ensuring appropriate controls are in place and maintaining adequate oversight of controls for Australia.
  • Review, assess and enhance policies and procedures and monitoring programs to reflect regulatory developments and best practices
  • Timely and proactively escalate issues resulting from compliance monitoring, resolution tracking and management/Board reporting
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate records and details to prepare effective management and Board reports.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Compliance Efforts: Assist the APAC Compliance team in achieving AUSTRAC Registration compliance and AFSL license applications, including coordination with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee Compliance Program: Maintain oversight of the Financial Crime and Compliance program for Australia, ensuring it aligns with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Conduct regular horizon scanning to stay updated on local regulatory developments, providing insights to inform compliance strategies.
  • AML Investigations: Support the AMLCFT team by assisting in investigations, transaction monitoring, and filing Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) with AUSTRAC.
  • Control Implementation: Ensure appropriate controls are established and maintained, with adequate oversight for Australia, to mitigate compliance risks effectively.
  • Policy Enhancement: Review, assess, and enhance policies, procedures, and monitoring programs to reflect regulatory changes and industry best practices.
  • Issue Escalation: Timely and proactively escalate compliance issues identified during monitoring activities, tracking resolution progress, and reporting to management and the Board.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records and details to facilitate the preparation of effective management and Board reports on compliance activities.
