Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Compliance Officer is responsible for working with the Senior Compliance Officer in ensuring that the Company Compliance Program is functioning as an independent and objective body that reviews and evaluates compliance issues/concerns within the organization. The position ensures that Board of Directors, management, and employees are in compliance with the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies and that company policies and procedures are adhered to.
The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that all aspects and duties of this role are handled efficiently and accurately in accordance with credit union established policies and procedures and all governmental rules, regulations and laws pertaining to the functions performed in this department.
The Compliance Officer will also act as one of the Enterprise Risk Management Officers and Vendor Risk Management Officer as needed within the organization.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course in compliance.
- Three to five years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
- Credit Union Experience in the area of Compliance.
- B.A./B.S. degree a plus as the job involves a significant amount of written communications to internal/external customers.
- Certified Compliance Professional a plus.
- Experience with banking or Symitar system is a plus.
- Detail-oriented, excellent organization, verbal, written, and communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills to meet the daily need of the department and assigned projects.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate/communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Must possess leadership skills.
- Ability to balance risk management with customer service in everyday duties.
- Work independently and with others.
- Proficient with Word, Excel, and other software packages and PC literate.
Responsibilities:
- Keeps informed about federal and state compliance rules, laws, regulations, and best practices as they relate to the Credit Union. Assists with reporting changes, as appropriate, to affected departments. Provides Management with information on any changing compliance rules, laws, and regulations that may have an impact to the organization and provides guidance, within the scope of responsibility, or seeks the appropriate guidance from Compliance resources and collaborates with Senior Compliance Officer to fulfill said responsibility.
- Reviews and recommends revisions to policies and procedures for the general operation of compliance management. Conducts annual review of these policies and procedures to ensure that the ever-changing compliance arena is reflected appropriately.
- Supports Credit Union departments with issues involving compliance including coordinating compliance activities, answering questions, developing policies, reviewing advertisements, etc.
- Assists with the review and update of all company forms, disclosures, member publications, advertisements, and the website to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Supports ERMCO by preparing ERMCO Agenda and Packet, attending meetings, preparing meeting minutes, and relevant duties. Assists with coordinating and leading ERM risk assessment matrix reviews with Credit Union functional areas, analyzes the results, and collaborates with Senior Compliance Officer to prepare ERMCO and Board Summary reports.
- Assists with information gathering activities for audit and examination engagements.
- Manages and maintains the Complaint Management Program. Provides regular updates to Management on the status of complaints, type of complaints, and resolutions. Recommends possible changes based on complaints.
- Other duties as assigned.
