Be part of a purpose-led organisation, with care at its core. You’ll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.
The City’s night-time economy is an integral part of its commercial, cultural, and social fabric. Late night trading premises are an important part of Sydney social and street life that contribute to Sydney’s image as a Global City.
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and qualified development compliance professional to work within and shape the City’s vibrant night-time economy by contributing to the safety of and liveability of this international city.
You will assist with the monitoring and compliance of the City’s late-night premises by providing advice on applications for licensed and late-night trading premises, inspect, monitor, regulate and assess premises to ensure compliance with development consents, and work collaboratively with a range of other council services, businesses and other authorities with the objective of maintaining a harmonious urban environment.
The role has a high level of autonomy and entails working within a team most Friday and Saturday nights with additional shift penalties.
Our Health & Building team offers a friendly and helpful working environment, which supports all of its staff members through in-house professional development and assistance, whilst recognising the importance of a balance between work and lifestyle commitments.

To be successful you will have:

  • appropriate tertiary qualifications in Health, Building, or equivalent, or extensive appropriate demonstrated experience
  • demonstrated experience in seeking regulatory compliance with a broad range of unauthorised building work and uses in new and existing buildings
  • demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of regulatory and compliance legislation including a working knowledge of the Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Building Code of Australia, Codes and Australian Standards as they relate to building assessment, compliance and enforcement
  • availability to work flexible hours including weekend, early morning, and late-night shifts
  • advanced communication skills to allow you to liaise and collaborate with a wide range of individuals in an effective professional manner.

At the City of Sydney you’ll join a dedicated team where individual effort is part of something much bigger – creating great things for our city’s dynamic future.
