    This NSW Government agency regulates tobacco and e-cigarette sales and smoke-free areas, aiming to reduce usage due to their significant health risks. It advises the government on policies, enforces regulations, and implements evidence-based reforms.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Substantial background in regulatory and compliance activities, including the interpretation of legislation.
  • Preferably holds a minimum qualification of a certificate IV in Government Investigations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilising effective interpersonal skills to manage challenging interactions, resolve conflicts and de-escalate situations.
  • Capable of working flexibly across various environments and contexts.
  • Exhibits strong organisational skills and thrives in high-volume, demanding professional settings, adept at prioritising tasks and achieving results with a customer-centric approach.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging, collaborating and negotiating with stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Willingness and capability, including possession of a current NSW driver’s license, to travel to different locations throughout NSW, potentially involving overnight stays in regional or remote areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcing compliance regarding tobacco, e-cigarettes, and smoke-free regulations.
  • Conducting inspections at regulated retailers and smoke-free locations to provide in-person education and ensure compliance with regulatory priorities.
  • Monitoring compliance and issuing Penalty Notices and cautions to individuals allegedly violating relevant legislation.
  • Gathering, organising, and analysing data related to compliance monitoring and enforcement activities.
  • Responsible for handling all court appearances, including mentions for prosecutions initiated by the Tobacco & E-cigarettes Compliance Team, until either a plea of not guilty is entered by the defendant or legal representation engaged by the Ministry takes over.
