SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in materials science or mechanical engineering (composite materials).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience relevant to the responsibilities listed above.
  • In depth understanding of the testing, inspection, quality issues and certification of composite parts, components, and structures (sandwich construction knowledge is a plus).
  • Experience with glass or carbon fibers reinforced structural composite material and process systems.
  • Knowledge of structural composite characterization, testing standards, and processing.
  • Strong understanding of solid mechanics and finite element analysis for manufacturing processes (we use ANSYS).
  • Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Expertise in statistical experimental design and process control.
  • A strong commitment to accountability, collaboration, and execution.

Responsibilities:

ROLE:

We are now looking for a person with relevant experience in composite materials testing coming from academic or manufacturing environment, with a deep understanding of testing, qualification, and characterization of materials, for our composite research and development activities in Portugal. This role is based in our Portuguese entity in Viana do Castelo where you will work as member of the local composite manufacturing group.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, trade, and select composite material and processes for manufacturing trials.
  • Identify qualification envelopes, form test plans, and execute characterization campaigns.
  • Define and maintain technical specifications and engineering standards, including test plans for prototype certification, materials, product, and system acceptance.
  • Promote statistically driven experimental design and process improvement campaigns.
  • Build, develop and implement simulation models and algorithms.
  • Analyse and interpret simulation results to support decisions.
  • Post-process results to determine if products meet customer requirements.
  • Keep up to date with latest industry developments and emerging simulation technologies.
  • Work where necessary, with other functions, to assist in achieving overall project objectives.
