POSITION OVERVIEW:

The City of Maple Ridge’s Police Services Department is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. We are dedicated to providing professional law enforcement support services while fostering positive relationships with residents and stakeholders. As part of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission and contributing to the success of our department.
We are seeking a highly organized and adaptable Confidential Assistant for Police Services to provide comprehensive administrative, research, and clerical support to the Department Manager and Officer in Charge (OIC). This position involves handling confidential and sensitive information related to labour relations, personnel matters, and departmental operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong judgment, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of the RCMP Act, the Local Government Act, and RCMP and Municipal policies and procedures;
  • Ability to function efficiently with limited direction, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, municipal officials, and other employees, and to meet and successfully serve the public on a continuing basis.
  • Ability to exhibit and maintain confidentiality and discretion of matters as required with regard to private information;
  • Ability to meet challenges, handle pressure, and resolve problems while maintaining a positive and focused outlook;
  • Advanced skills in people management practices for direct reports, capable of creating and sustaining a respectful and productive work environment that inspires teamwork, creativity, enthusiasm, and positive results. Ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff in a unionized environment;
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and the general operation of standard audio-visual equipment;
  • Exceptional time management skills;
  • Considerable knowledge of the procedures, practices, and regulations involved in the operation of a municipal police department;
  • Ability to oversee RCMP electronic and archived file management system;
  • Adaptable and able to shift focus frequently, and;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the core competencies of:
