The Victoria Faulkner Women’s Centre has received a three-year funding agreement to run a pilot to engage young men and boys in addressing sexualized assault and intimate partner violence. This project includes three core deliverables:

The creation of a Sexual health Education Hub for Yukon educators where all sexual health education curriculum from all NGO and YG partners will live in order to streamline bookings and ensure yukon students have better access comprehensive sex education in the Yukon. This includes the creation of new curriculum for the hub.

  • Launching an all-genders Young Feminist Club at VFWC. The club will meet weekly and support young people to learn and activate their activism in a supported environment. Students will be hired to support coordination of the club, guest speakers and special projects.

    • Launching Next Gen Men in the Yukon, a program for grade 8-10 boys to engage them in conversations about masculinity, mental health and allyship.
      VFWC is seeking a program coordinator to design, launch, operate and evaluate this project in partnership with a male contractor to support the Next Gen Men Launch, the VFWC Communications Coordinator to support marketing and partnerships, and other VFWC staff to support operations of the Young Feminists Club. This program is funded through Promising practices funding from the Government of Canada and has a heavy evaluation component to establish how this best practice will work with the North.

Main Duties:

  • Program Design and Evaluation
  • Deliver the funding workplan including:
  • Creating baseline surveys and pre and post program surveys for all program elements as per the funding workplan. Work with Yukon Status of Women Council to create an evaluation framework for this project.
  • Working with community partners to design and launch the Yukon Sexual Health Education Hub.
  • Engaging Youth and First Nations partners and consultants to review and create new curricula.
  • Recruiting and train sexual health education facilitators. Promote the curricula and coordinate facilitators to present in schools and community-based organizations.
  • Hosting a weekly Young Feminists gathering, take guidance from youth and support their activism projects and requested guest speakers and activities.
  • Establish Pilot sites for the Next Gen Mentor project including working with Next Gen Men to train a cohort of mentors, establish partner sites across Yukon Communities.
  • Work with Communications Coordinator to create all promotional materials for programming including advertising, brochures, web pages etc.
  • Deliver a final video, and legacy output to detail the outcomes of all project elements for knowledge dissemination.
  • . Secure additional funding as needed for program elements.
  • Team and Partner Coordination
  • Outreach and regular updates to community partners and project partners.
  • Hire and support students for the Young Feminists including training, collecting and submitting timesheets, and gathering maintaining up to date HR files for all team staff.
  • Oversee work by male contractor for Next Gen Men Program, provide guidance and support and oversee completion of work.
  • Work with VFWC staff to engage Young Feminists in VFWC campaigns and events.
  • Finance and Grant Management
  • Understand and meet all grant commitments and reporting requirements.
  • Submit invoices and track spending.
  • Hire and oversee program contractors as per workplan.
  • Use Budgyt software to produce quarterly spending reports for Board.
  • Communicate regularly with funder and submit all reports in a timeline manner.
  • Other Duties
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Prepare monthly board reports on project progress and quarterly finance reports.
  • Support events and Drop in Programming at VFWC as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience or certificates in sexual health education is an asset
  • Experience in campaign management, communications and marketing including social media, web management and print.
  • Experience with student or volunteer recruitment and supervision
  • Experience in program design and management (including budget management, grant reporting)
  • Experience working with and engaging youth, in particular those who have experienced trauma.
  • Experience designing curriculum for youth.
  • Experience managing a large, multi year budget.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining strong relationships with community partners.
  • Knowledge of response-based practice an asset.
    Knowledge of suicide-ASSIST, Mental Health First Aid or conflict de-escalation techniques an asset.

  • This position requires a fair amount of independence and a self-starting individual who is able to create a program vision and deliver it. The position will also require some evening an weekends to accommodate for program delivery.
    Vulnerable sectors check through the RCMP is required for this work.
    A class five driver’s license is required.
