Description:

GMC is looking for a Construction Manager –Inspection and Administrative Services to work in the Transportation Department of our Birmingham, AL office. The Construction Manager will be managing construction engineering projects and associated personnel for roadway and bridge infrastructure projects; managing inspection team members; supporting project managers and providing oversight of construction deliverables and associated services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years roadway and bridge construction experience
  • Knowledge and ability to read plans and comprehend standard specifications
  • Ability to effectively present information in oral and written format
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Capable of scheduling and estimatin

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews pay requests, submittals, field tests and other contract documents related to construction
  • Conducts on-site observations of contractor’s work to determine if the work is proceeding in accordance with contract documents
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and awareness of plans and specifications, as well as the General Conditions of contracts
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of regulatory requirements from different local, regional, state and federal agencies
  • Familiarity with general survey drafting standards and general construction drawing standards
  • Ability to apply technical skills to routine projects with minimal supervision
  • Visit construction sites to observe progress and to determine general conformance to engineering plans and specifications
  • QA/QC
  • Executes cross discipline checks and coordination
  • Recognizes and reports risk management issues to Senior Designer as appropriate
  • Coordinates work with professional engineers, surveyors, technicians, environmental personnel, city code enforcement officials and construction crews
  • Communicate with clients with the knowledge and under direction of Project Engineer

  • Asphalt Level I Laboratory Technician Certification

  • Asphalt Level II Quality Manager Technician Certification
  • Roadway HMA Pavement Technician Certification
  • Work Zone Safety Certification
  • Certified Concrete Technician (ACI and ALDOT certification)
  • Radiation Safety Technician Certification
  • Qualified Credentialed Inspector (QCI)
  • Contract Plan Reading Certification
  • ALDOT certified and experienced with CAMMS
