What to Expect
The Utility Deployment Construction Manager is responsible for leading the onsite execution of Tesla BESS projects. Ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements are paramount. Construction Managers must exhibit strong communication, planning, and coordination skills with a diverse set of project stakeholders: site craft workers, site managers, owner’s representatives, utilities, vendors, AHJ’s, design, environmental & engineering consultants, Tesla team members, and a variety of internal Tesla groups. Striking a balance between Tesla’s and Customer’s desired outcomes and priorities requires flexibility, nimbleness, and perseverance; forward looking leadership is a must. Construction Managers must maintain rigorous, transparent communication with the Project Manager and primary site management team acting as conduit between onsite and offsite project team members. General construction methods, electrical (LV, MV, & HV) construction methods, and familiarity of electrical systems commissioning are a prerequisite for success.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop comprehensive understanding of contractual requirements, design packages and specifications, Tesla and subcontractor scopes of work, critical path schedule, quality requirements, and site safety execution plan. Oversee and manage project teams, subcontractors, and vendors. Ensure contractors execute their contracted scope using quality construction methods and industry recognized construction standards
  • Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and reporting of all incidents per developed EHS SOP’s. Identify, mitigate, communicate and manage construction risks
  • Review and provide input/data for RFI’s, Submittal’s, and Change Orders to project management and/or project engineering teams
  • Collaborate with subcontractors to create site plan, site logistics plan and sequence of work
  • Coordinate Tesla equipment deliveries and perform QA/QC activities in conjunction with material turnover to subcontractors and/or project owners
  • Coordinate, manage and direct onsite personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and interface with various project stakeholders.
  • Review work progress daily and prepare internal and external reports documenting overall job status as required. Ensure project documentation is current and preserved in the assigned document repositories

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years working experience in construction management including record of stellar leadership, organization and communication
  • Experience with Tesla Megapack or other BESS installation as well as Medium Voltage electrical installation and testing
  • Ability to travel for up to 100% of the time
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Project, Adobe, Excel, and familiar with various construction administration interfaces
  • Confident in decision making ability and coordinating among key stakeholders
  • Competent in conflict and crisis management, with an ability to communicate in a nonabrasive, constructive manner
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
