Description:

The Anaesthetics Directorate at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust sits within the Collaborative Care Group, which incorporates Trauma & Orthopaedics, Elective Care, Breast services, Critical Care, Perioperative services and Pain Management Services.
The Trust provides acute and community services to the population of Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, East Durham and surrounding areas including a large part of Sedgefield, with a budget of £375 million and 4,656 employees. Both hospital sites have formal accreditation from the NHS for Cancer Unit status and Trauma unit status is based at the University Hospital of North Tees. We have an excellent supporting infrastructure of staffing and are proud of our high clinical reputation and positive working culture. We have excellent medical staffing training, which supports the recruitment of good calibre trainees.
The post will be offered for 10 PA’s under the Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England). Candidates should be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice and on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of obtaining their CCST).
The appointment is subject to an Enhanced Level Criminal Records Bureau check. For further details/informal visits contact: Dr Anil Sharma, Clinical Director Anaesthetics 01642 624167, Dr Prabhakar Paranthaman 01642 624167 or Mrs Alison Coates, Care Group Director 01642 624620.
There is a Consultant led acute pain service across the two sites of the Trust. It is run by well trained nurses on a day-to-day basis with any difficult acute pain management problems being referred to the dedicated pain management consultants. There are regular monthly meetings of the pain management service to discuss and address various issues.
The pain service works in collaboration with the integrated community pain management team which consists of specialist MSK team, highly specialised psychologists and pharmacist and provides a comprehensive pain management programme and medicine/opioid optimisation clinics.
The chronic pain service is well established and has continued to expand over the years. There has been a steady increase in the number of referrals each year; the current average being 1400 new patients referred to the service. There are on average 8 outpatient clinics and 3 day case theatre sessions per week between the five Consultants in addition to a number of nurse-led review clinics per week. A wide range of interventional pain management techniques, including radiofrequency lesioning is offered to patients. The Pain Management Nurses also hold regular TENS Clinics, acupuncture and pain management programme sessions.
Monthly MDT meetings are held with attendance from healthcare professionals from secondary care pain service and community pain management service.
At North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust our main priority is, and always will be, to provide safe and high quality care to our patients every day; the kind of care we would want for ourselves and our loved ones. We want our organisation to be the best place to work with the right staff, in the right roles, at the right time, to ensure we deliver exceptional patient care and experience.
We will support staff through providing an inclusive and supportive workplace with health and well-being initiatives, staff benefits and opportunities for personal and professional development. Staff recognition is very important to us; as well as performance reviews and appraisals, we recognise staff through Star and Team of the month, colleague recognition – a note of thanks, Managers Awards, Shining Stars and Service Awards.
We support the Making Every Contact Count approach to behaviour change in the promotion of health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
We recruit for values and “Together we are North Tees & Hartlepool”
