Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Scientist to join our Radiotherapy team. The Department has completed the replacement of our fleet of linacs in 2022 following the installation of our second Halcyon, and the associated IT infrastructure replaced in May 2024. Additionally, the Trust is working closely with local charities to upgrade one of our Halcyon linacs so that adaptive radiotherapy can be delivered to the patients of Staffordshire through Varian’s Ethos Adaptive Therapy System. Plans are also in place for the expansion of our brachytherapy service to include prostate needle therapy.

You will be expected to have the experience required to act at a Consultant Clinical Scientist level, and work in collaboration with our clinical, scientific and management teams to ensure that the cancer service provided by the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is exemplar. Specifically, the postholder will be expected to

  • Deputise for the Head of Radiotherapy Physics in managing the scientific and technical services at the University Hospitals of North Midlands
  • Take the scientific lead for Quality Assurance/Dosimetry and for the scientific component of clinical implementation for new treatment techniques
  • Have specific responsibilities for mentoring and co-ordinating the Clinical Scientist Trainees across the Medical Physics Directorate
