Description:
The ICU admits approximately 400 patients per year, and these patients are a mixture of elective post op surgery and emergency work for both medical and surgical specialties. 20% of the workload is from surgical patients. One ICU consultant is responsible for the unit at all times leading a team of resident medical staff and working closely with the nurse in charge. Duty periods are from Monday to Friday or Friday to Monday split equally between all consultants.
Some weeknights are covered by colleagues in the weekday duty period
