The proposed timetable and PA allocation are indicative of the work required but is not rigid and will be flexible depending on service needs and the base specialty of the applicant. A formal job plan will be agreed between the site lead on behalf of the Medical Director within three months of appointment. The job plan will then be reviewed annually and covers all aspects of a consultants professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external.
In addition, it will include personal objectives, including details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives. So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues, this includes short periods of annual leave, sick leave, study and professional leave on a quid pro quo basis. Paid backfill is provided in exceptional circumstances. On occasions Consultants may be requested to perform additional duties in emergencies or unforeseen circumstances or convert SPA time to Direct Clinical Care
