Description:

The departments provide an outpatient service based upon shared-care protocols and consultations provided directly by consultants or by properly-supervised clinical assistants and junior medical staff. The clinics are held at the Royal Berkshire Hospital or in the spoke sites (Bracknell Hospital, West Berkshire Community Hospital or Townlands Hospital, Henley-on-Thames).
The inpatient work will be primarily providing acute medical care but covering other activities may be required for example to provide specialist opinions and to support the in-patients of the other medical and surgical specialities across the Trust. The appointee will be expected to provide prospective cover for the other consultants for all their clinical activities other than outpatient clinics. Annual, professional and study leave is thus agreed with colleagues before being booked with prospective cover in mind.
The simulation date is 19th June 2024 and the interview is 04th July 2024.

Responsibilities:

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

To provide, with colleagues, the Acute Internal Medicine service in both in-patient and out-patient settings.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Active participation in monthly clinical governance meetings within the department.
Active participation in morbidity and mortality meetings.
Participation and involvement in meetings and other business in the development of the service, in particular the AECU and new pathways such as the virtual hospital and digital by default programmes.
Participation in the guidance and deployment of junior medical staff including allocation and supervision of clinical work
The Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology is one of the largest in the Thames valley Region. It has a strong presence both in the acute Trust and in the community. The department was recently a runner up for three ‘Quality in Care’ national awards for the implementation of the Think Glucose project, aiming to improve diabetes inpatient care. There is a purpose-converted Diabetes and Endocrine Centre within the hospital complex. There are 4 full time consultants and 1 part time consultant (40 % job share with acute medicine) with interests in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism. A full range of diabetes and endocrinology services is provided at the Royal Berkshire hospital.
