We are looking to recruit an ambitious motivated consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist to our team to drive quality improvement in acute gynaecolgoy. In adition to delivering general outpatient elective and acute obstetric and gynaecological care, the post holder will also support our ambulatory gynaecology pathway. They should be committed to supporting safety, and to enhance multi-professional team working. This post would be ideally suited to someone with a willingness to lead or support change within their area of interest. We would welcome informal enquiries. This post would be suitable for a newly qualified CCT holder, or an experienced consultant looking for a change.
The post holder will have a varied clinical timetable covering a mix of elective and acute clinical sessions in obstetrics & gynaecology. Clinical and managerial leadership will be shared with the present consultants, operational and senior nursing or midwifery team. An office base with administrative support will be provided.

Responsibilities:

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The post holder will provide, with colleagues, high quality patient care and clinical leadership in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They will provide both on-call and resident cover out of hours.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Active participation in monthly obstetrics and gynaecology clinical governance meetings within the department is expected. Participation and involvement in meetings and other departmental business will include monthly perinatal morbidity mortality meetings, Monthly maternity senior team meetings and attendance at quarterly educational governance meetings.

The Trust has a successful track record of delivering high quality acute medical and surgical services for 500,000 patients across West Berkshire, an area extending from Newbury in the west to Henley-on-Thames in the east, and including Wokingham and parts of Hampshire to the south and parts of Oxfordshire to the north. The Trust is one of the largest general hospital Trusts in the country and is Reading’s biggest employer.
The hospital provides all those services normally associated with a very large District General Hospital. The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialties including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery, Paediatrics (including a NICU), general medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, ITU and gastroenterology), radiotherapy and oncology, and all the general surgical specialties.
This is a full time post with a minimum of 10 PAs. A final job plan will be agreed upon appointment, ensuring both individual and Trust / departmental objectives align. Job planning commences annually with the Clinical Lead and Directorate Manager, in September, to compliment the departmental business planning process and concludes in December, following sign-off by the CMO.
The balance between Direct Clinical Care and Supporting Professional Activities will be agreed with the post holder in the final job plan. The SPA allocation is 1.5 for personal CME, audit and revalidation requirements including departmental meetings. Additional Pas (APAs) may be allocated for specific agreed objectives for the trust subject to the agreement of the Clinical Director.
