Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Rheumatology with a specialist interest in Spondyloarthritis (10PA’s) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will undertake five Rheumatology outpatient clinics per week each. The appointee will also be expected to participate in educational and management audit as well as teaching junior doctors and medical students. The Rheumatology service is currently planning a service re-design and hope to develop pathways that span primary and secondary care. The appointee will be encouraged to contribute towards such projects. There is an active research portfolio and a well-established clinical trials unit. There will opportunities to participate in research but this will need to be negotiated separately.
Candidates will need to be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Rheumatology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Rheumatology service in Cambridge is based at the Addenbrooke’s Hospital site with satellite clinics at Ely, Saffron Walden and Newmarket. The Rheumatology team is expanding with new Consultants, Pharmacy and Nurse Specialist posts but currently consists of 11 Rheumatology Consultants, 11 Rheumatology Practitioners, 2 Specialty Registrars and 2 Clinical Fellows. The team have close links with Primary Care and with other specialties such as Gastroenterology, Renal Medicine and Vasculitis, Neurology and Dermatology and benefit from several established MDT meetings.
The service is supported by an excellent team of Musculoskeletal Radiologists. There is an established Early Arthritis Service with clinics at Addenbrooke’s and Newmarket Hospitals, Psoriatic Arthritis and Spondyloarthritis Service, Connective Tissue Disease Service and Metabolic Bone Disease Unit. There is also an established Rheumatology Research Unit supported by the Consultant team, a Clinical Fellow and Research Nurses.
