Description:
Substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist - specialist in Medical Retina
We are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Medical Retina, providing sub-specialty out-patient clinics and oversee a non-medical injection service.
We have an excellently established Medical Retina Team with a supporting Medical Retina failsafe officer.
Cataract clinics and surgery could be considered if appropriate.
The medical retina service continues to transform and initiate new models and pathways of care to meet the needs of the local population by implementing best practice.
This is a full-time post.
Participation in Consultant Tier 2 On Call non-resident team is available depending on experience (not essential requirement)
To provide specialist Consultant Led out-patient medical retina clinics:
- Macular
DMO
- Stable macular virtual clinics
- Oversee non-medical injection clinics
To provide teaching and education to trainees, Trust doctors, Optometrists, Orthoptists, Nurse practitioners, ACPs to enhance future models of care and expansion within the specialty.
Opportunity to work with service leads to conduct service improvement, transformation and research.
Opportunity to provide emergency on-call and cataract surgery depending on experience.
The Surgery and Anaesthetics Division
Each Division has a Divisional Director who is supported by a Director of Operations, along with finance, personnel and information technology support. Within the Division there are 4 Directorates; Head and Neck, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Critical Care and Operating services.
Each Directorate has a Clinical Director who is supported by a General Manager and Matron with finance, personnel and information technology support. The Head and Neck Directorate includes; Ophthalmology, Orthoptics & Optometry, Ear Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Cancer, Maxillofacial Surgery and Audiology.

The Department of Health and Social Care has awarded capital funding to invest in local health services at both Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
