A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus to join our Ophthalmology team on a permanent basis at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
You will be actively providing and supporting the further development of first-class ophthalmology services for the Trust, working collaboratively with colleagues in all disciplines to provide an integrated service for patients.
Our ophthalmology department nearly sees 110,000 patients annually in all sites, including inpatients and outpatients. We have a dedicated ophthalmic day unit and paediatric ophthalmic cases are accommodated on one of the three age dependent paediatric wards.
N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date if we receive a high volume of applications or if there has been a change in organisational priorities.
The successful candidate will work with other team members to provide a comprehensive ophthalmology service to the Trust, Primary Care Trusts and General Practitioners. Other duties include:
Developing close collaborative links with clinicians working in their specialty and working to develop services provided to patients in these areas to the highest standards including the development of treatment protocols and guidelines.
Participating in the departmental audit programme as well as participating in multidisciplinary audit relating to their area of clinical interest.
Participating in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
Supervising trainees working in the department, assisting in their training and appraisal.
The post requires a special interest in management of paediatrics ophthalmology and adult strabismus and the holder will work with 2 other paediatric colleagues to maintain and assist in the delivery of a comprehensive service in this field and bring new ideas to the take the service forward.
The post will be for 10 programmed activities per week, giving adequate time for SPA duties.
