Description:

YORK TEACHING HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

Consultant Orthodontist –
Base: York Hospital
Full Time – 10 Programmed Activities (an additional programme activity may be offered).
Application Process
This consultant post is a replacement post for a long-serving colleague who is retiring in September 2024. Currently, it is a full-time post (10 PAs) based at York Hospital, but with a clinical commitment at Scarborough General Hospital, two days per week. We are open to discussion regarding flexible/less-that-full-time working. The successful candidate would participate in the Orthognathic and Orthodontic/Restorative MDTs and would carry out the full range of orthodontic consultations and treatments appropriate for secondary care apart from the treatment of cleft patients. We are happy to accept applications from candidates planning on sitting the ISFE in May 2024 with a view to starting in the department in September 2024, if successful.
The department in York Hospital is part of the Head and Neck Directorate which sits in the Surgical Care Group and is based in the Head and Neck outpatient department with Audiology, ENT, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Restorative Dentistry. There is an on-site laboratory, and the department is 3D-enabled with an intra-oral scanner and 3D printer.
You will be working alongside two orthodontic consultant colleagues, one of whom also has clinical commitments at Scarborough General Hospital and one who has clinical commitments at Harrogate District Hospital. There is also an orthodontic specialty dentist, clinic assistant and therapist in York and therapists in Scarborough and Harrogate. The dental nursing team is excellent and extremely helpful, as are our secretary and reception team. You will also be working with two Restorative Dentistry consultants and there are five Maxillofacial surgeons, two of whom undertake orthognathic surgery which is 3D planned. Post-pandemic, our orthognathic service has been fully operational since May 2021 and we have undertaken twice as many procedures as any other unit in our region in that time. We do not have a backlog. Joint orthodontic/ restorative patients have access to a full catalogue of treatment options including dental implants and associated hard and soft tissue augmentation.
