Description:

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) has an exciting opportunity within the Specialist Hip and Knee Unit to appoint one substantive full time (10 PAs) consultant surgeon.
As part of the Specialist Hip and Knee Unit you will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care and highly specialised surgical management. In addition, you will undertake audit, research and quality improvement work to ensure ongoing commitment to patient safety and clinical quality.
The post-holder is expected to be fellowship trained in hip and knee arthroplasty. A particular interest in complex primary arthroplasty, revision hip and knee arthroplasty and peri-prosthetic joint infection is also essential.
We are looking for an applicant who work well within a team and have relevant experience in the management of complex joint reconstruction of the hip and knee. You will also have good communication skills and experience in multidisciplinary team working.
This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the top 10 ranking world leading specialised orthopaedic hospitals. We aim to enable a sustainable service which is well governed, prioritises patient experience and focuses on patient outcomes and research.
You must be fully registered with the GMC/GDC and hold a full License to Practise and be on the specialist register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.
Work a full time 10 PA job plan. There will be 8 Direct Clinical Care Programmed Activities sessions & 2 Supporting Programmed Activities (SPA); ward rounds, theatre sessions, planning meetings, procedures, MDTs & outpatient clinic appointments.
Provide in-patient & out-patient medical, surgical & rehabilitation care to patients.
The unit has a commitment to our teaching element. The appointed consultant will take part in continuing & extending teaching within the unit.
Job plans will be developed in partnership between the needs of the department & the successful applicant.
The post is at the grade of Consultant & will be appointed on the terms & conditions of the new consultant contract agreed nationally.
There will be an established mentor for newly appointed consultants. Newly appointed consultants are encouraged to develop decision making with their mentor or senior consultant colleagues for advice.
The appointee will be required to work at any RNOH site, this will include working in another Trust where RNOH has a clinical partnership to provide services.
When required to travel between sites (Stanmore/Bolsover) or to another Trust where RNOH provides a service, this will be factored into your job plan. We will aim to keep clinical commitments at the same site each day. Where you need to travel between sites, travel time will be paid for a DCC but not an SPA. Travel time between Bolsover Street & Stanmore site will be paid at 0.2 PA, equivalent to 50 minutes.
Whittington Health serves a richly diverse population and works hard to ensure that all our services are fair and equally accessible to everyone. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the way we look after our staff. We aim to employ a workforce which is as representative as possible of this population, so we are open to the value of differences in age, disability, gender, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, and religion or belief. The Trust believes that as a public sector organisation we have an obligation to have recruitment, training, promotion and other formal employment policies and procedures that are sensitive to these differences. We think that by doing so, we are better able to treat our patients as well as being a better place to work.
The Specialist Hip & Knee Unit has thirteen [13] Consultant Surgeons.
This job plan is a combination of set and flexible sessions in relation to SPA time, clinic and theatre sessions. This will depend on the availability of theatre sessions in the trust. As the Trust secures more capacity we will proceed to make the job plan fixed with regular commitments although a degree of flexibility is always needed
