These posts are located in a district general hospital which provides secondary level medical care. The department consists of eight Physicians with sub-speciality interests, and two Consultant Cardiologists. Two new general physicians (internists) with subspeciality interests in nephrology and gerontology are sought to complement the team. The scope of practice is predominantly acute general medicine.
The current schedule of work consists of being assigned to Ward based care three weeks on, then three weeks off to attend to administrative duties, CME activities, committee and audit work. Clinicians are also rostered half day outpatient clinics two times a week.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- You will be accountable for functioning effectively as a consultant, providing optimal, ethical and patient centred medical care and providing clinical support for the multi-disciplinary team while working in conjunction with surgical, anaesthetics, nursing allied and cultural team members to deliver good quality outcomes for patients.
- You will establish and maintain clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to your practice
- You will perform a complete and appropriate assessment of a patient
- You will use preventive, therapeutic, and diagnostic interventions effectively
- You will demonstrate proficient and appropriate use of procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic.
- You will participate in a 1 in 6 on call rota.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
To be successful in your application for this opportunity as the Consultant Physician, we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:
- A degree in medicine - MBBS, MBChB, MD
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent specialist qualification in internal medicine
- Subspecialist training in either nephrology or gerontology
- Medical Council of New Zealand vocational registration or eligibility for this in the scope of internal medicine.
