Description:

This is a new 10 PA post for a Consultant in Elderly Care Medicine, with an interest in Surgical Liaison, at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will provide high quality care to general surgical patients throughout the Trust, and to further develop the Surgical Liaison Service. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the general work of the department including cover for Consultant colleagues where practical. This includes working flexibly to maintain skilled consultant cover for emergency service provision
The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist care to this growing population of patients, and raise departmental profiles through teaching and education.
The post holder will share clinical and managerial leadership responsibilities within the elderly care service with the present consultants. An office base with secretarial and administrative support will be provided.
The consultant will participate in the Elderly Care Physician Of the Day (ECPOD) rota. In line with other consultants in the department, we would encourage and support consultants wishing to have additional subspecialty interests within the department, especially those willing to work on the acute Elderly Care wards in rotation
The Simulation date will be on the 4th April 2024. The interview date is 26th April 2024.
The post holder will be expected to provide, with colleagues, Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for frail older patients admitted to the surgical wards throughout the trust, as part of the Surgical Liaison service. Ensure continuity of care for older people admitted to surgical wards; enabling patients to receive specialist consultant care throughout their stay in the acute areas. Enhance and support our outpatient services, particularly in perioperative medicine.
To provide on-call cover for the Elderly Care Physician (ECPOD) on call on a 1 in 16 rota. On-call is Category A with 3% on-call intensity supplement. Specific fixed weekday to be confirmed.
Prospective cover for each other’s annual leave will be shared equally between the consultant team, and is likely to involve cover of the inpatient wards. Active participation in monthly clinical governance meetings within the department.
Participation and involvement in meetings and other business in the elderly care service. Responsibility for the educational supervision and clinical supervision of trainee doctors. Development of perioperative medicine service, specifically for older people
Participation in education and training of staff within the surgical directorate, including the perioperative medicine teaching programme
