Description:

Oxford Health is looking for outstanding candidates for this attractive opportunity to work in the Aylesbury Community Mental Health Team which is based at the Whiteleaf Centre, in Buckinghamshire.
We are looking for a 0.8 WTE consultant psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership to the Buckinghamshire Early Intervention Service (BEIS). This post has become available due to expansion in the closely related Buckinghamshire At Risk Mental State (ARMS) Service. The post holder will work closely with the existing consultant psychiatrist who will work 0.2 WTE in BEIS alongside their role in Bucks ARMS. The role will focus on the ongoing medical needs and treatment of the established First Episode of Psychosis patients in Bucks aged 14-65 for up to three years. This is an exciting and rewarding area of clinical work, where every patient has an established serious mental health problem, whilst presenting with a full range of holistic needs and co-morbidities. The team is well-established, running at near 100% substantive staff with fully integrated multidisciplinary team members including ready access to psychological therapies. The team is funded to maintain reduced caseloads as compared to the CMHTs in order to provide a high level of specialist care and assertive outreach during a critical period in our patients’ lives.
As the primary consultant psychiatrist in BEIS you will be responsible for the ongoing medical care of patients with FEP, aged 14-65 in the Buckinghamshire area. You will be an active member of the BEIS Senior Leadership Team, taking a lead role in service development and supporting the team managers to deliver high quality, recovery focused care. You will undertake some limited initial assessment work and will lead on ongoing diagnostic formulation. You will be a key voice in developing evidence-based, holistic care plans. You will maintain a range of connections to Trust, wider-NHS and non-statutory organisations to ensure the most appropriate discharge and transfer plans are made. You will be an ambassador for recovery in psychosis and an expert in the treatment of psychosis in this population. You will maintain your personal development, with scope for additional areas of interest including developing research/ quality improvement projects and supervision of junior doctors.
Our organisation is driven by our values, and we look for people who are strongly aligned with them. In Bucks we pride ourselves on a supportive, collaborative environment which minimises internal conflict and allows focus on patient care. BEIS is a long-established team, which has retained many of its multidisciplinary team members including our agency staff moving to substantive positions because of our positive patient-centred approach and the opportunities for progression. We are particularly motivated by a hopeful, recovery-focused and individual approach to psychosis and major mental health problems.

Close links with the University of Oxford
A flexible approach to work pattern

BEIS is a service that provides early detection, assessment and intervention for 14-65 year olds who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Its aim is to provide world class, evidence-based treatments in order to reduce the impact of the disorder for the individual and their families. The service is based on an assertive outreach model with the interventions being delivered alongside individuals in the community. The service aims to engage with individuals for up to three years to offer medication, individual psychological therapy and family intervention along with the wider aspects of the care plan.
BEIS works closely with many services and agencies including Primary Care, Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT), Children & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Inpatient wards and Day Hospitals, Schools, Colleges and Universities to encourage early referral, facilitating an early assessment of needs by the team. BEIS is a clinical academic service, working alongside researchers from the University of Oxford and several joint clinical-academic posts within our sister service (Oxford EIS). The service is at the forefront of undertaking research in the area of early psychosis. We are partners of the Oxford AHSN Early Intervention in Mental Health Network and of the NIHR CLAHRC Oxford Early Psychosis research programme.
BEIS operates as an integrated multidisciplinary team of experienced and dedicated clinicians including medics, mental health nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, support workers, peer support workers, counselling/ clinical psychology, psychology trainees/ assistant psychologists and full admin support. BEIS has a dedicated physical health lead/ personal trainer and dedicated community outreach lead as well as several clinical ‘band 7’ roles within the team. BEIS prides itself on being supportive and collaborative - staff are given multiple training opportunities, both structured and informal. The team has successfully recruited several agency staff into substantive posts and runs at a very low level of vacancies. Funding has recently been approved for an ARMS service in Buckinghamshire, which will be developing in close collaboration with the existing EI service
