Description:

We are looking to recruit an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Children and Young People Service Line to provide medical leadership to the health and wellbeing team (HWBT) at HMYOI Cookham Wood. The post holder will work alongside the consultant psychologist leading on the psychologically informed approach we use in our children and young people’s (CYP) services in secure estates.
The HWBT assesses and treats young people, on ordinary location, in the healthcare wing with mental with mental disorders, behavioural conditions and neuro-developmental conditions including ADHD, Autism and learning disability. The post is part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to this unique population of young people. The post-holder will also work closely with other aspects of the healthcare service within the YOI, including secure stairs, the primary care team and the substance misuse team.

The post holder will be expected to provide direct consultant (CAMHS / forensic) psychiatrist input into the mental health care of young people undergoing assessment or treatment by the HWBT in HMYOI Cookham Wood. And specialist psychiatric advice and consultation to a range of healthcare and prison staff to promote effective delivery of mental health care. The HWBT receives referrals from any member of the prison staff, healthcare staff or outside agencies such as CAMHS, Looked After Children Teams etc. Young people will be either seen in clinics within healthcare or on the Prison Wings.
We need someone who can work well on individual, group and systems levels to help effect change and who shows excellent leadership skills, sharing knowledge and bringing people along with them. As a psychiatrist, the postholder will also be well-versed in high quality interventions for young people throughout the system with a wide range of needs, often underpinned by trauma, attachment difficulties and adversity and demonstrated in part through high risk and offending behaviours.

Participation, when relevant, in the ACCT (self-harm / suicide prevention)
Practice in accordance with NICE and other relevant Guidelines and CNWL Trust
Accurate record keeping according to Trust and professional guidelines (data protection legislation and information governance standards).
