Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to recruit a part time consultant psychiatrist as part of a reconfiguration of Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability (Learning Disability) provision to Community Learning Disability Teams in Dorset.
The post holder will provide a community psychiatry service for adult patients with Learning Disabilities in the Purbeck and Ferndown areas (without epilepsy management).
Epilepsy management is provided by the specialist Dorset Epilepsy Services from within the neurology service. The post holder will be supported by colleagues experienced in Learning Disability Psychiatry, and work within a well developed integrated Community Learning Disability Team supported by the Intensive Support Team.
This is a post for a part time (6 PA) Learning Disability Psychiatrist working in Ferndown and Purbeck areas of Dorset. The post holder will work primarily with the Ferndown and Purbeck Community Learning Disability Teams.
These provide comprehensive community-based services to patients registered with general practitioners within this area. There is also a multidisciplinary pan Dorset Learning Disability Intensive Support Team which supports CLDTs, and you will regularly attend their weekly review meetings.
Specialist epilepsy management for adults with LD is not part of the LD psychiatrist’s role in Dorset as this is provided by the consultant Neurology led Dorset Epilepsy Service.
The Learning Disability Services in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset have undergone a major reorganisation since the final closure of all the campus learning disability beds in 2011. The services are now focused in two tiers, community learning disability teams and intensive support.
The health staff in Community Learning Disability Teams are employed by Dorset HealthCare and are co-located and integrated with Dorset Council social care staff. Each CLDT is led by a Dorset HealthCare health lead (OT in Ferndown and Purbeck) and a Dorset Council lead Area Practice Manager.
CLDTs have multidisciplinary health staff with LD nursing, OT, physio and psychology staff and speech and Language therapy staff are shared across CLDTs. All health staff are employed by Dorset HealthCare.
