Description:

Two substantive consultant radiologist posts are required to support activity in cross-sectional & breast imaging at the Royal Marsden. These are to fill a vacancy within the department and to support continued expansion of radiology services. The post holders will require in-depth knowledge and experience in oncological CT and MR imaging, including body MRI. There may also be a requirement to undertake general ultrasound and competency in performing ultrasound guided diagnostic biopsies may be required. A component of each post is to support symptomatic breast imaging. Applicants for these posts should have prior experience in mammography, breast ultrasound, tomosynthesis and both stereotactic and ultrasound guided interventional procedures using vacuum assisted devices. Skills in Breast MRI and MRI breast intervention are also desirable.
The post holders will be expected to liaise with colleagues in the general imaging department providing radiology, ultrasound and nuclear medicine services to clinical subspecialties within the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research. Across all imaging modalities the consultant staff are expected to work in collaboration with radiographers and other allied health professionals to provide high quality clinical service in a supportive environment.
The radiology department has a long and distinguished record of teaching and training. Junior radiology trainees rotate from a number of major radiology training schemes within the greater London area including St. George’s Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Charing Cross and Hammersmith (Imperial College). In addition, out of programme experience trainees have been attracted from centres including Leeds, Nottingham, Norwich and Plymouth in the last ten years. The post holders will be expected to take a role in teaching and training, particularly with respect to research methodology and the use of radiology within clinical trials.
The department has a reputation for innovation and research and the post holders will be encouraged and supported to become actively involved in clinical research. We also have an active audit programme and the post holders will be expected to participate in this.
The post holders will form part of the diagnostic on-call, which is currently a 1:12 rota.
