NO ON-CALL COMMITTMENT; MULTIPLE POSTS AVAILABLE

The radiology department in CCC currently provides a comprehensive oncological radiology service; there is also provision of PET/CT activity as part of the National Contract, working as a sub-contractor to Alliance Medical. The new Liverpool Cancer Centre includes CT, MRI, PET/CT, U/S, Plain Film and Interventional Radiology. Facilities on the Wirral site include general radiology, CT, MR ultrasound, nuclear medicine and PET CT with a static PET/CT scanner on site. The workload is largely Oncology related with no on-call commitment.
There is a centralised Cheshire and Merseyside PACS system for the majority of the hospitals in the region and it is possible to report scans remotely from another hospital (or from home).
The Department supports clinical trials requiring evaluation using RECIST criteria, as well as research projects related to oncology imaging, radiotherapy planning and treatment. The post holder would be expected to participate in radiology department research.
The post holders will help further develop oncological imaging, expanding areas include imaging in radiotherapy planning, PET CT including PET CT radiotherapy planning, RECIST reporting, head and neck imaging, oncological interventional radiology including CT/US guided biopsy, paracentesis and vascular access. Subspecialty interests such as head and neck imaging, interventional radiology, RECIST reporting are welcomed, other interests will be considered.
The provision of Diagnostic Oncological Imaging service and it is envisaged that the interests of the post-holder could be encompassed within the service. The job plan is for 10 Programmed Activities, (8 Direct Clinical Care and 2 Supporting Professional Activity).
Instruction of radiology trainees in specialist oncological imaging.
The post will carry membership of the Medical Advisory Committee of CCC and a contributory participation in other administrative duties.
Contribution to the general administrative duties of Consultants at CCC is expected.
All consultants should maintain their specialist registration with the GMC and comply with the standards expected by their Royal College (or equivalent) so that they are professionally ‘in good standing’. Regular appraisal is both the key activity underpinning revalidation and a contractual requirement for all consultant staff.
The Trust attaches considerable importance to this approach, which is intended to be of benefit to individual consultants to support the highest possible standards in delivery of healthcare services.
A mentor will be appointed to support the consultant in adjusting to the new role and responsibilities.
The post-holder will be expected to participate in appropriate CPD activities. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing medical education as laid down by the Royal College of Radiologists and is committed to continue providing time and financial support for these activities.
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is one of the largest networked cancer centres in the UK providing specialist cancer care to a population of 2.3m in Merseyside, Cheshire, the North West and the Isle of Man. We are a tertiary cancer centre and provide non-surgical cancer care for solid tumours and haematological malignancies.
The Radiology Department currently provides a comprehensive oncological radiology service, there is provision of PET/CT activity as part of the National Contract, working as a sub-contractor to Alliance Medical. The new Liverpool Cancer Centre includes CT, MRI, PET/CT, U/S, Plain X-Ray.
We have also created an interventional radiology room within the radiology department in Liverpool and this is a rapidly developing this service.

The department was awarded QSI for the Wirral site in 2020 and has gained further accreditation for the Liverpool site in January 2023.
CCC will be contributing to CDC activity in a new state of the art centre. Whilst the majority of reporting will be oncological the CDC activity will also provide the opportunity to report general cross sectional Radiology.
JOB PLAN - The posts carry no on call commitment
Joining a team of specialists in a brand new cancer centre contiguous with the New Royal Liverpool Hospital site (Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust). Some consultant radiologists already work jointly at CCC Wirral and at LUHFT. The advertised posts potentially allow for similar joint job plans with sessions in both hospitals.
A proposed job plan is on page 9 of the attached Job Description, this may be amended depending on the particular interests of the successful applicant and to take account of any particular experience or training that they may have. Any amendment to the job plan will be made following discussion with the Clinical Director
