Responsibilities:
This position is to provide enhanced consultant level care to Monash Urology services. The Urology unit has 15 consultants at this time, with Director and Deputy Director Leadership roles. This is a fractional consultant position, initially for a 12 month term, to provide adult urology services to Monash Health. The role requires 14.88 hours per week to cover outpatient clinics and operating lists as well as attendance at weekly MDT and monthly unit meetings. Direct clinical supervision, support and pastoral care to the junior team of residents and registrars will be a key component of the role, as well as back-filling of operating lists and clinics for annual leave and external shockwave lithotripsy sessions as required.
This role is aimed particularly at providing consistent consultant involvement in the day to day running of the wards and emergency department with the expectation to support daily registrar ward rounds, engage in multidisciplinary management of complex ward patients and provide senior urologist level involvement of emergency admissions. The successful applicant will provide a vital role in streamlining the patient journey, minimizing inpatient length of stay and optimizing discharge planning. The Consultant will be required to undertake:
- Patient assessment and management
- Patient care coordination
- Supervision / teaching of advanced Urology trainees
- Intern/HMO support, supervision, feedback and teaching
- Student interaction and teaching
- Family member communication, feedback and liaison
- Extensive interaction with the other health professionals, especially, the nursing and allied health staff
- Demonstrate commitment towards key organizational initiatives
- Demonstrate compliance with all relevant Monash Health Policies and Procedures
