Description:

In response to the Three Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Services, NBT are excited to grow the Continuous Improvement and Learning Team. This will support routine Divisional Governance requirements and help us to achieve evolving priorities of the Division and national safety agenda. We have an exciting opportunity for the role of Continuous Improvement and Learning Lead on a permanent basis, within the Women and Children’s Health Division at North Bristol Trust. We are looking for someone who is passionate about patient safety and continuous quality improvement for the role. In this position, the post holder will work alongside and in partnership with the current Continuous Improvement and Learning Lead. They will have line management responsibilities for staff members within the Continuous Improvement and Learning Team, further developing robust systems and processes aligned with national and local safety improvement initiatives. In collaboration with key stakeholders, the post holder will implement learning from national recommendations using principles set out in the national and local Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.
The Continuous Improvement and Learning Lead (CILT) will work with the Senior Leadership team to implement the Trust and National Patient Safety Agenda for Perinatal and Gynaecology services at North Bristol Trust. The role requires effective leadership and management skills to promote a proactive approach to patient safety practices and risk management processes. The post holder will initiate strategies to ensure quality and safety, and meet transformation governance requirements, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality service. They will support the development of a patient safety culture and safety systems. The Continuous Improvement and Learning Lead will support patient safety and quality governance improvement activities and ensure that systems thinking, human factors understanding, and Just Culture principles are embedded in all Divisional safety processes.
North Bristol Trust’s Women and Children’s Health Division offers a complete range of gynaecology and perinatal services to residents of North Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset. Our recent CQC inspection rates us as “good,” which means we are performing well and meeting expectations. Our gynaecology team offers a comprehensive outpatient and inpatient service with emphasis on one-stop outpatient services, and specialised skills in sub-fertility, urogynaecology, endometriosis and minimal access surgery. We welcome over 5,600 babies every year, and our dedicated staff are committed to providing personalised care of the highest quality. Our NICU is a Level 3 Tertiary Unit, with 34 cots, including 8 intensive care cots, 8 high dependency cots, and 18 special care cots. We are part of the Southwest Regional Neonatal Network, which provides care to most of the extreme preterm infants in the region.

The post holder will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team within the Women and Children’s Health Division leading the clinical governance agenda within the Division. They are responsible for the co-ordination of clinical governance procedures and frameworks with the Division. The post holder will manage the clinical governance team in the further development of robust systems and processes throughout the Division in relation to clinical governance and quality, which underpins safe clinical practice. The role encompasses risk management, clinical audit, and clinical effectiveness programmes. The post holder will provide leadership, guidance, and expertise within the wider multi-professional team for the Division for clinical governance and risk management. This will include putting in place strategies and framework that ensure the Perinatal services and wider Division meets the Trust and National Reporting Priorities. The post holder will have direct line management responsibilities for the Continuous Improvement and Learning Team (CILT).
