The Contract Risk Advisor Assistant (CRAA) supports the project management, operations, finance/accounting, and business development teams through legal review and coordination of contracts, master service agreements, subconsultant agreements, task orders, Requests for Proposals (RFP), sample contracts, and other contractual agreements. The CRAA must have an ability to parse complex contractual language, identify risk, and assist with negotiating mutually agreeable agreements and mitigations to risk while maintaining client relationships. The CRAA is responsible for supporting Project and Office Managers during the initial phase of contract review. During this phase, the CRAA will be engaged to review items flagged for elevated risk on the contract review checklist, provide guidance on level of exposure, and propose mitigation strategies. The CRAA shall be capable of working independently and will have relevant contract legal review experience applicable to consulting A/E services. This position reports to the Finance/Contracts Manager but will also work directly with the Senior Contract Risk Advisor, Operations, Finance, and Project Management staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five or more years of legal experience that would include the review of contract language to identify company risk exposure, and definition of mitigation measures to reduce the risk through alternate language and/or revisions to the scopes of work.
  • Experience relevant to the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry. Government contracting, software licensing, and international contracting is a plus.
  • Ability to advise on risk associated with various contract types (Fixed Fee, T&M NTE, T&M, Cost Plus, Fixed Fee, etc.)
  • Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in related field such as Law, Communications, English, etc. is preferred; a degreed/licensed attorney is not required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an in-depth knowledge of the nuances of legal terminology
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining professional relationships with both internal and external clients
  • Experience in prioritizing time and workload and flexibility to adapt to changing requirements to meet deadlines
  • Detail oriented, results focused, and highly organized
  • Software skills including Excel, Word, and Outlook

Responsibilities:

  • Review of public and commercial contracts, master service agreements, subconsultant agreements, task orders, RFPs, sample contracts, and other contractual documents and agreements
  • Identify and assist in limiting and mitigating risk in contract language and agreements
  • Participate, as needed, with PM’s and Ops Managers in discussions to align contracts as closely as possible with the contract review checklist for prime and subcontract terms and conditions.
  • Work with the operations, project management, and finance team to ensure adherence to WTR policies
  • Advise, interpret, and consult on all matters associated with contract requirements
  • Review RFP or solicitation request requirements to ensure company response is aligned
  • Review proposed/required insurance coverage requirements for alignment with approval authority
  • Assist with review of nondisclosure, joint venture, and teaming agreements as may be required
  • Collaborates respectfully and communicates effectively with all project team members, including corporate enterprise risk management, operations, project managers, office and regional managers, finance, and business development.
