SD Avionics is a division of Satcom Direct located in Kanata, the high-tech hub of Ottawa, Ontario. Our second largest site globally, this location manufactures avionics hardware, cabin routers, and the SD Plane Simple Antenna System.

JOB SUMMARY:

Satcom Direct is a leading global satellite services provider offering reliable and secure satellite-delivered communications solutions worldwide to business aviation and government customers. SD Avionics, located in Ottawa, designs and manufactures communication products. The HR Generalist will support the Canadian operation in providing daily human resource functions and ensuring that employees are connected to our World Headquarters located in Florida. This is an individual contributor role where a high degree of self-direction is required to address all areas of the HR function.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, international relations or other business-related field or an equivalent amount of experience and training.
  • 3 - 5 years recent experience in Human Resources or other directly relevant fields.
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification a plus.
  • ADP experience a plus.
  • Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
  • Problem solving/analysis.
  • Ethical and possess a high sense of confidentiality.
  • Ability to create and maintain confidential document library of past and present policy and employment files.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of creativity in order to meet and accomplish goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to analyze and interpret complex business documents or concepts.
  • High degree of time management is essential with ability to prioritize.
  • Strong technical aptitude and business acumen as well as a great sense of assuredness and poise.
  • Proficient with general office systems including but not limited to; Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, ADP, and the ability to adapt to a variety of other software databases.
  • Must be able to perform independently and in a team environment.
  • Must possess ability to flex in rapidly changing environment.
  • Successful candidates must successfully complete a background check.

Responsibilities:

To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and should demonstrate the following competencies to consistently perform the essential functions of this position. All employees are expected to adhere to and be knowledgeable of Satcom Direct (SD) operational standards, established safety rules, and requirements for adherence to company attendance guidelines. The requirements listed below are representative of the fundamental knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the job successfully:

  • Provide directional support and address employee issues or questions.
  • Provide HR support to Canadian location, along with the UK and other international locations as needed
  • Act as the first point of contact for managers and employees who require HR support
  • Coordinate with managers on staffing needs, sourcing candidates, and full life cycle recruitment efforts to include new hire orientation
  • Partner with leaders by providing consultation, guidance, metrics and support regarding HR functions
  • Track employee programs, certificates, and other programs affecting payroll administration for all foreign entities.
  • Champion HR processes, programs, policies, and guidelines as directed by Corporate. Ensure that employees at the Ottawa location are connected to World Headquarters.
  • Partner with the Head of HR on performance management, staffing, compensation, and other corporate programs as assigned
  • Act as the prime contact for health and safety matters for the location, including participation in the health and safety committee, assisting with the planning and coordination of regular health and safety training and updates, and preparation and submission of legislated government reports
  • Assist with administration, coordination, production, and implementation of training programs, compliance policies, and procedures for this location.
  • Maintains internal HR sites, applications, records, reporting, documents, and updates as required for all Canadian employees.
  • Audit assistance
  • Facilities management for office and parking needs for site
  • Low-level IT duties: Setup work desk, manage equipment ordering and setup, equipment and desk setup repairs, etc.
  • Complete various filings and submissions.
  • Assist in maintenance of compliance with local laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
