Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Controller will lead the accounting organization for MarWest Commercial, a division of FirstService Residential.
The Controller is a key leader who works closely with the President and Director of Financial Operations. The Controller partners with department leaders, property managers, and the support team to promote client retention, build healthy relationships internally and externally, improve processes, provide training, reduce liability, and enhance overall operations within the accounting department of MarWest Commercial.
The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership experience, project management skills, and technical accounting expertise, with a proven ability to collaborate with various departments, and drive process improvements within the accounting department.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience supervising a high-volume transaction processing organization is desired.
  • 5+ years of experience leading team members accountable for responsibilities similar to those required for this position. Must have strong leadership skills including the ability to effectively and respectfully address performance concerns and create a culture of strong accountability and performance.
  • 5+ years of technical accounting experience including accrual-based experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and steer the direction and team toward improving current processes and protocols.
  • College degree in business management or equivalent related experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & PROFICIENCIES

  • Identify, manage, and mitigate risks.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Applications, especially Word and Excel, including complex Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
  • Possess excellent oral presentation and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in English.

Responsibilities:

OTHER DUTIES

  • Play a crucial role in the ongoing business transformation by ensuring the implementation and utilization of best-in-class processes and tools.
  • Provide generalized and ad-hoc training to Property Managers as needed.
  • Use independent judgment to resolve issues and provide guidance to team members. Ensure that consistent policies and practices are being followed.
  • Prepare and maintain procedures for specific job duties.
  • Liaison with IT and other departments on various projects, impacting the organization including future migration from Jenark to a new platform.
  • Drive the recruiting, hiring, and separation of personnel.
  • Participate in special projects as needed & other duties as assigned.

  • Conduct business at all times with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct.
  • Perform or assist with any operations as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules.
  • May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing the work.
  • Follow all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management.
