Description:

Position: Controls Engineer (Junior and Senior Level)
Location: Richmond, VA
Duration: Contract to hire (Depending on performance and business needs)

Job Description:
Develop and troubleshoot engineering designs for various client products.
Handle standard machines/systems, custom products, legacy products, and sales support.
Responsible for both hardware and software design for machine and/or control systems.
Ensure accuracy and compliance of drawings with the latest electrical code.
Assist Electrical Assembler during system build and preflight check out.
Provide field service assistance and installation, including potential travel to customer locations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Alternatively, an Associate’s degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience for Junior Level, 5+ years for Senior Level in controls/electrical engineering.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Project.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with industrial communications (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNET, Profibus, etc.).
  • Proficient in software programs like Studio 5000, RSLogix, RsLinx, Factory Talk View Studio, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley Operator Interface and PLC hardware/software.
  • Understanding of mechanical machine design and electrical codes/regulations (NFPA 70, NFPA 79, UL 508a).
  • Willingness to travel up to 25-30%.

Responsibilities:

  • Design control systems from start to finish, meeting client and customer standards.
  • Prepare machine designs with all necessary power, control systems, and electrical diagrams to meet project specifications.
  • Collaborate with Control Specialists to ensure accurate drawings following the latest electrical code.
  • Create detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for machine/system designs.
  • Develop machine/system programs and operator interface programs according to client standards.
  • Document PLC and HMI programs for each machine, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Compile spare parts lists for client systems.
  • Assist Controls Engineering and Product Managers in designing Electrical Systems for customer specifications.
  • Perform other assigned duties as directed by management.
