Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of the Applied Research Centre, the Coordinator is responsible for promoting, implementing, and supporting applied research projects, primarily in the areas of nursing and health. The Coordinator identifies and encourages connections between faculty, students, business, not-for-profits, and health authorities with the goal of securing funding to execute innovation that meets the community needs and the strategic directions of the College.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Surveys the campus stakeholders to evaluate strengths (e.g., research-ready faculty, possible synergies, existing or high-potential partnerships, research-appropriate resources), and gaps (e.g., resource needs, training, support).
  • Explores funding sources and disseminates information on funding opportunities to faculty members.
  • Builds relationships with potential partners that have the ability to collaborate on grant proposals.
  • Writes sections of grant proposals, drafts letters of commitment from external partners and creates and/or gathers supporting material for grant proposals. Within the term of this appointment, the successful candidate will lead a submission to an external grant opportunity appropriate to the discipline.
  • Works with the ARC Director and Manager to ensure successfully funded projects are executed according to terms of the award.
  • Liaises with other areas of the College that support research interests such as Finance, Risk and Contracts, People and Culture, Communications and Marketing, and the Langara Foundation.
  • Works with the ARC team to execute the strategic plan.
  • Fosters a culture of research and innovation, such that future projects are likely to occur.
  • Participates in the organization of research-related events (e.g. Applied Research Day or similar) for faculty and students engaged in research.

Skills

  • Ability to envision, plan, and execute grant applications.
  • Ability to build partnerships with potential research partner organizations.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the various business units of the college.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Possess an understanding of the roles of the various college functional units, and the policies that dictate their activities.
  • The successful candidate will have previous experience with designing, writing, and implementing successful grant applications. Familiarity with funding opportunities in the areas of social sciences, humanities, creative arts, and health innovation, especially in the college context, would be an asset.

Salary Range:
$45.88 - $142.49
Salary Range Placement: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
