Description:
The Coordinator of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) works under the direction of the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the College of Medicine (CMED) and provides support for college-wide collaborations that advance the breadth of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This individual assists in the planning, development, implementation, assessment and reporting of CMED’s DEI strategic goals and educational programs for students, faculty, and staff.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Academic Administration, or related field.
One year of experience with diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education or related field.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks effectively, including exceptional attention to detail, organization, timeliness and follow through.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems. Strong project management skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with various constituencies.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and project a positive image. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team across a variety of constituencies. Working knowledge of computer applications.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant experience in higher education or medical school.
Prior DEI programming experience
Responsibilities:
Provides logistical and technical support for programs hosted by the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Serves as the primary contact for the Health Equity and Social Justice Dialogue series.
Assists in the development and implementation of a support group for medical students across all four years, who are interested in advancing health equity, inclusion, and diversity in medicine and/or who identify as underrepresented in medicine.
Provides content-specific support to student interest groups who partake in the coordination of health equity, diversity, and inclusion programming.
Produces and distributes the office’s monthly newsletter.
Maintains the office’s DEI event calendar.
Assists CMED’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and programs across the College of Medicine.
Supports the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of CMED’s DEI strategic goals, initiatives, and outcomes.
Consults with the Director of DEI, Office of Medical Education, course directors, and other appropriate partners on the development, implementation, and assessment of DEI related course content and educational programs for students, faculty, and staff.
Coordinates with the Director of Strategic Communication and the Director of DEI on the creation and maintenance of DEI communications both internally and externally.
Serves on the CMED Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion bylaw committee and other committees as deemed appropriate by the Director of DEI and senior administration.
Travels between CMED’s West (Mount Pleasant) and East (Saginaw) campuses as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
