Description:
POSITION: Coordinator, K-5 RLA
EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt
NUMBER OF DAYS: According to district approved calendar
DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Teaching and Learning
SUPERVISES: As Assigned
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with the appropriate teacher certification
- Master’s Degree from accredited college or university preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience
- Deep knowledge of the subject-area content and research-based instructional strategies/practices
- Capacity to lead content-area teaching teams for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievement.

Responsibilities:
POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE
The K-5 RLA Coordinator provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the K-5 RLA curriculum program and ensures the effective implementation of various curriculum resources. The coordinator develops, implements, supports, and monitors the K-5 RLA program and provides leadership for district-wide literacy initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure that K-5 RLA programs and practices align with district policies, state regulations, and educational standards.
- Disaggregate, analyze, and report on various sources of formative and summative assessment data.
- Facilitate PLCs for K-5 RLA teachers to encourage collaboration, share best practices, and address common challenges.
- Provide on-going professional learning opportunities and support to teachers and leaders on curriculum resources, research, and best practices.
- Coordinate the selection and procurement of instructional materials, resources, and technology to support K-5 RLA instruction.
- Design rigorous, aligned K-5 RLA district benchmark assessments and supports test administration.
- Review and evaluate state and district assessments, and recommend appropriate modifications to the RLA program.
- Support and oversee work related to the Reading Academy, Spelling Bee, A Plus Academics, and elementary libraries.
- Offer guidance and support to K-5 RLA teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies and differentiation techniques.
- Work in conjunction with the Teaching and Learning Department, including Special Services and the Bilingual/ ESL department, and the School Leadership Department to ensure program success.
- Foster collaboration among K-5 RLA teachers, other content coordinators, and administrators to create a cohesive learning environment.
- Explore and recommend innovative ways to integrate technology into K-5 RLA instruction, fostering digital literacy skills and engaging learning experiences.
- Maintain knowledge related to allowable state assessment accommodation decisions that can be made for students with an RTI plan, and collaborate to provide guidance on the development of RTI plans
- Tailor professional learning sessions to address the diverse needs and experience levels of K-5 RLA teachers, ensuring that content is differentiated to meet varied learning styles and instructional preferences.
- Assist in organizing and planning all summer learning programs and offered by the district.
- Attend relevant school, district, and professional meetings.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local community organizations, libraries, and literacy advocates to enhance resources and support for K-5 RLA programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
