What we are looking for…
AvantStay is looking for a Corporate Counsel to join our dynamic, hardworking, and people-oriented Legal Team. This person will be a skilled and versatile law practitioner with experience in a variety of areas all aimed at across-the-board compliance. This hire will be part of a small in-house legal team that is directly involved in the company’s strategic decisions and operations, and will have the opportunity to interface with executive and business teams to manage and execute the organization’s operational needs and strategic priorities. This hire will thrive in unstructured environments and be ready to create processes and procedures wherever they see fit. Necessary traits are a go-getter attitude, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a sense of humor.

What you’ll do…

  • Identify, research, track, and strategically counsel the company on new and existing legal requirements applicable to AvantStay’s nationwide distributed workforce
  • Work with and lead cross-functional groups to identify and implement employment law compliance best practices
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data use and protection laws (including state/federal consumer protection and privacy laws, CCPA, GDPR and other global privacy laws)
  • Advise on and help maintain intellectual property portfolio
  • Provide advice regarding transactional and corporate matters
  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships as a key relationship manager for the corporate legal department among the various internal business groups requiring legal support
  • Advise and collaborate with clients at all levels within the business to successfully close on project contracts, as well as in support of other business initiatives
  • Provide counsel on strategic deals, provide day-to-day advice, and consult on issues that arise in existing relationships
  • Lead larger impact projects both within the department and across the company while working with cross-functional teams, including delivering ongoing improvements to simplify and optimize contract standards, processes, and templates to better serve clients

REQUIREMENTS

What you’ll bring…

  • 2 years general experience at a firm (areas of practice would include contracts, labor law, employment agreements, compliance, data privacy, Intellectual Property, etc)
  • 1-2 years in-house experience for a company (ideally a start up) as Counsel
  • Availability to answer questions in a timely manner
  • Excellent judgment and exceptional integrity
  • Active listener and excellent written and oral communicator
  • Skilled at resolving complex issues and thinking creatively
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to be self-directed and work in team settings across disciplines
  • Experience in multiple states is preferred
  • Experience in California is preferred
