ACCOUNTABILITIES
We are seeking a lawyer who possesses strong commercial acumen and the ability to deliver business-centric legal advice to a wide range of stakeholders. In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Acting as trusted in-house adviser involving the convening, attending, and managing of monthly meetings to discuss key strategic priorities for the Business and the status of key contracts.
- Advise on all commercial and corporate practice areas including Corporations Law, privacy, data protection, advertising law, Confidentiality, and financial services regulation.
- Drafting and reviewing third party vendor agreements, master services agreements, statements of work, SaaS agreements, software licences, NDA’s, white label arrangements and other bespoke agreements.
- Advising various stakeholders across the business on corporate legal issues, and financial services law issues. Advise the Business in relation to key strategic commercial relationships and negotiations to achieve sustainable outcomes and manage risks.
- Provide legal advice in relation to ASIC Breach Reporting.
Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training, and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to team members.Maintain and be part of a positive team environment and company culture aligned with our values of high performance with high integrity.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia (ideally 3-6 years PQE); Prior experience as an Insurance Lawyer in an insurance or financial services company/ law firm and/or litigation is advantageous, but not essential.
- Prior experience drafting and managing template agreements, policies, and company documents.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
- Written communication skills and the ability to draft with limited supervision.
- Knowledge of privacy, data protection, advertising law, information and technology law will be considered favorably.Good understanding of regulation impacting insurance, including the legislation arising from the Financial Services Royal Commission.

The role of a Legal Counsel is to provide unbiased, effective legal advice that protects and promotes the ongoing sustainable growth and integrity of the Auto & General (A&G) Australian insurance business.
