JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is a member of the Legal Services Office, and work is performed under the direction of the Chief Counsel. This position exercises substantial independent judgment in providing legal advice and representation. This position will be involved in work in the following areas:
Substantial contract development and review for, and advice to, Department Bureaus and Offices, often involving complex agreements for diverse transportation projects that involve consultants, private developers, municipalities, nonprofit entities, or State, federal or international entities;
Working with the Department’s Real Estate Counsel, which may include drafting documents involving acquisition, lease, or disposition of property; easements; and review and advice on licenses and permits under statutes and rules applicable to the Department;
Legal research, writing, interpretation, and advice with respect to federal and State statutes and regulations applying to Department programs and projects; and
Other work as may be assigned by the Chief Counsel.
The successful candidate will possess exemplary research and writing skills and a demonstrated ability, through experience and qualifications, to perform work in the areas described above in a busy and time-sensitive environment.

TO BE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATES MUST PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF THE FOLLOWING:

A law degree from an accredited law school, admission to practice law in Maine with current registration with the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar, and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in legal practice, with a strong preference for the practice areas noted above.
