Description:
ELIGIBILITY FOR THIS COMPETITION IS RESTRICTED TO STEP 1 CANDIDATES INCLUDING OPS ALOC AND OCAA LAWYERS living or working within 125 km of this location. Note: Eligible lawyers from outside the Area of Search may apply but will not be entitled to relocation or travel expenses for the transfer as set out below.
TECHNICAL LEGAL EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with equality rights/discrimination jurisprudence and the Charter
- Knowledge and experience in administrative law and civil procedure
- Demonstrated experience working on large, lengthy and complex systemic human rights matters
- Experience in human rights litigation and/or public interest inquiries, mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR)
- Demonstrated experience working with experts
JUDGEMENT AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS
- Well-developed research and analytical skills
- Proven judgement and tactical skills
- Patience, tolerance and ability to determine what is important or material

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include:
- Providing legal advice to the OHRC on important and complex human rights issues, including Indigenous reconciliation, criminal justice, health and well-being, education and building a human rights culture.
- Identifying, developing, and representing the OHRC on litigation matters before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO), other administrative tribunals and the courts.
- Supporting the development of the OHRC’s policies and communications materials.
- Working with a team of lawyers, inquiry analysts and policy analysts on public interest inquiries
- Participating in mediation or other conciliatory processes
- Conducting training, participating in panels, delivering presentations on human rights legal matters.
- Drafting legal opinions, memoranda, factums, reports and other communications
- Supporting the OHRC on various community engagement initiatives.
