Description:

SUMMARY

This is a moderately complex position dealing with the public as well as court personnel and other agencies. The applicant must work well under stress, able to handle frequent interruptions, maintain proper courtroom etiquette and demonstrate discretion. Heavy computer work, technical skills, and the ability to multitask are essential to completing daily tasks. Maintains good communication and organizational skills with co-workers and management team. Flexibility in work schedule is also required to cover a rotating first appearance duty schedule that pays an extra $2.00 per hour when working a first appearance shift as assigned (note: this extra premium in pay is not reflected in the wage posted here). Must adhere to Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller policies and procedures.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Experience using Windows based applications and the ability to use the latest office automation technology. Ability to pass a typing test with results of at least 35 correct words per minute. Superior communication and organizational skills are required; ability to apply initiative and sound judgment to work is also necessary for this position. Excellent penmanship is also required, since most of the work performed is handwritten and must be legible to others.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED and at least one year (1) of recent and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to apply acute attention to detail in maintenance of detailed data, preferably in an automated systems environment and in a legal setting. In addition, at least one (1) year customer service experience.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Computer literacy which includes data entry, and is not limited to proficiency in Microsoft Windows.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities:

  • Works in the Clerk’s Case Maintenance System (CMS) Benchmark to Initiate and maintain court case records.
  • Processes case filings by electronic filing received through the state E-Filing Portal, paper documents or other sources.
  • Performs work in various queues in the CMS, as required by established and timeliness procedures or as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Prepares for and attends court hearings, enters all appropriate information on forms, takes minutes, marks and controls evidence, swears in witnesses, manages jury panel attendance, and performs other courtroom duties as required.
  • Prepares and disposes of cases and documents received from court, U.S. mail, in-person, or via e-file. Assures proper execution and notification as required by procedure to other agencies.
  • Reviews and redacts both sensitive and confidential case information prior to public view in accordance with the Florida Rules of Judicial Administration 2.420 and in support of the Supreme Court security matrix.
  • Assists the public as well as court personnel by phone, in person at the counter, in court, and researches case records to provide information.
  • Flexibility in work schedule is necessary if required to work overtime or flextime, evenings, weekends or holidays depending on court scheduling of trials.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
