ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Municipal Court provides equal access to justice, professional and impartial treatment, and the fair and time resolution of all court matters. Municipal Court performs their responsibilities in a manner that serves to maintain the public’s trust and confidence in the Court as an institution and to enhance the public’s respect for the rule of law, while preserving and protecting individual rights guaranteed under the constitution.
The Municipal Court is seeking a dedicated professional to fill their vacancy for a Municipal Court Security Officer. Court Security Officers are the first responders for the building to duress alarms, disturbances, emergencies, and medical incidents.
Duties Include:
- The use of walk-through and hand-held magnetometers to detect prohibited articles.
- The use of X-ray machines to screen customers’ belongings for dangerous or prohibited articles, and/or monitoring sensitive areas on CCTV.
- Screening all persons entering the facility through each of the three entrances.
- Provide security standbys and escorts in courtrooms.
- Monitoring surveillance cameras mounted in sensitive areas in the building.
Within 90 days of hire, must successfully complete a 40-hour Court Security Officer training course and be certified in accordance with standards set by the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- One year of experience as a security guard, police officer or military police officer.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
- Additional Requirements:
- Within 90 days of hire, must successfully complete a 40-hour Court Security Officer training course and be certified in accordance with standards set by the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts.
- Must successfully complete Arizona Supreme Court mandated training (COJET) annually.
- Must be qualified or become qualified by end of probationary period to carry and use chemical agents, restraints, batons, tasers and other non-lethal defensive weapons.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain tactical first aid, AED, and Narcan certification within 90 day review of employment.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- This position is subject to Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background standards. Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate’s suitability for the job.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Experience working with access control systems that include creating access control picture badges and adding and removing access groups and doors.
- Experience in emergency response training.
- Experience using de-escalating tactics and techniques to mitigate incidents.
- Experience working an X-ray machine and magnetometer.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Spanish proficiency is desired.
