MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Position requires extensive experience with the Virginia’s Judicial System with specific knowledge of policies and procedures. Candidates must be able to develop lesson plans, conduct classroom training, and perform follow-up assistance to the courts and court users on the use of the automated systems. Extensive use and knowledge of personal computer hardware and software is required. Candidates must be able to: resolve user problems over the telephone and on site; support the applications being implemented and maintained in the courts; develop user manuals and documentation; and perform testing and verification of application program changes while working in close coordination with software programming personnel. Ability to effectively and independently handle a number of tasks, projects, and administrative assignments required. Demonstrated experience in successfully initiating, developing, and managing research and action projects is highly desired. Applicant must possess excellent organizational, communication and writing skills.

Responsibilities:

The Court Support Specialist (CSS) within the Department of Judicial Services (DJS) plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive support for information technology solutions offered by the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) to Virginia courts, court system users, certain vendors and the public. The primary focus of this position is to ensure the efficient functioning and optimal utilization of various applications, with a strong emphasis on system development, support, testing, training, troubleshooting, and documentation. The position also acts as a liaison between Courts and the Office of the Executive Secretary, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The CSS will provide support to court personnel and external users in the understanding and use of Virginia’s Electronic Voucher Payment System (EVPS) and other public facing applications, including electronic filing, financial submission applications, and other assigned applications, and will collaborate with the Assistant Director of Judicial Services to handle assignments and priorities. Other responsibilities include working directly with the Department of Judicial Information Technology (DJIT) in the development of system features and functionality and problem-solving initiatives related to public-facing applications, testing system software changes and enhancements to ensure functionality and reliability, and contributing to the development of system use instructions and inquiry resolution through documentation, FAQs, and technology solutions such as chatbots or other AI responses. The CSS will coordinate with the Department’s court teams and DJIT’s development teams to schedule and roll out of systems to Virginia’s courts. Further support includes management of system enhancements for assigned applications including requirements definitions, logging and tracking, and review and approval of documentation. The CSS will attend Technical Review Board and requirements meetings specific to assigned projects, will test system software changes and enhancements, develop lesson plans and conduct classroom, web-based, and off-site training. The CSS will also develop interactive training media for assigned applications and produce and maintain system documentation, to include User Guides and release notices to system users. Other duties include those assigned by the Assistant Director of Judicial Services.
Statewide travel is required.
