Description:
A well-established suburban law firm seeks a Criminal Defense Attorney with 5+ years of experience. This is a unique career opportunity to primarily focus on case investigations, strategy development, legal research, and legal writing. Other members of the firm will focus on courtroom advocacy, business development, and act as primary client contacts. Preferred candidates will fully understand the complexities of the Minnesota criminal justice system and are familiar with Federal Court and Court of Appeals procedure. Former Public Defenders and former Judicial Clerks are encouraged to apply.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years of combined experience in a criminal defense law firm, public defender office, or judicial clerkship
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from accredited law school
Active license to practice law in Minnesota
Strong research and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with legal research databases (Westlaw, LexisNexis)
Strong work ethic and commitment to client service

Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive legal research on various topics using legal databases, statutes, regulations, case law, and other legal resources.
Analyze and summarize research findings in memoranda
Identify and explain relevant legal precedents and arguments
Prepare and draft legal documents such as motions, briefs, and pleadings
Review case records and filings, and analyze options
Provide procedural information on upcoming hearings and trials
Assist with discovery processes like drafting requests or responding to discovery
When necessary, communicate with clients, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel to gather evidence
Analyze police reports, witness statements, and other case documents
Collaborate with other members of the firm for strategy development
