Description:
THE TEAM
Womensline is a 24/7/365 free crisis helpline for women and children across Queensland experiencing domestic and family violence. We operate from an intersectional feminist framework, acknowledging that domestic and family violence is gender-based violence, predominantly perpetrated by men against women and children. We provide immediate individualised support and options to help victim/survivors feel safe again, whether they want to stay in the home, are thinking about leaving or have already left.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
It is a genuine requirement that for the role to be filled by a woman as permitted in sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1991
- Minimum 3-year tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
- 2 years’ experience in social/community services or other human services related field.
- Well-developed knowledge and analysis of the effects, causes and dynamics of domestic and family violence.
- Significant ability to multi-task competing priorities.
- Exceptional and effective interpersonal, conflict resolution and consultation skills – crisis intervention experience highly regarded.
- Confident telephone communication skills.
- Committed to delivering trauma informed and evidence-based support to women and children impacted by violence and abuse.
- Paid Blue Card and National Police Check or ability and willingness to obtain.
- Full rights to work in Australia.
- Valid ID/driver’s license.
- Must be able to work in-office (due to the nature of our service, no work-from-home arrangements available)

Crisis Intervention Counsellors contribute to the delivery of domestic violence support services to Queensland women through provision of professionally assessing the needs of all callers while adhering to the organisation’s operating framework and principles. This includes, but not limited to, conducting thorough risk assessments and safety planning, offering crisis counselling support, providing accurate information and appropriate referrals, as well as offering practical assistance with accommodation and transportation needs.
With Womensline being a phone-based service, incoming phone calls are to be handled with a professional, culturally sensitive, and non-judgmental approach to ensure appropriate action is taken to maintain client safety. Also, the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of work, including database entries, QHIP, and case notes, are to be always maintained at a high standard as it is invaluable to client safety.
