JOB PURPOSE

The University of Glasgow is looking for a highly motivated candidate to lead the Critical Technologies Accelerator (CTA) and ensuring its long-term sustainability past the current funding cycle. Working with the CTA Director, the Director of the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre (JWNC), and their Director of Strategy, and the broader academic team, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of the overall portfolio of CTA projects. You will also have responsibility for working with industry and other collaboration partners to define and lead the development of new projects, including identifying external funding sources to secure the long-term sustainability of the Innovation Accelerator once the current round of CTA IA Levelling-Up funding expires in March 2025. It should be noted that the University has submitted an application to Glasgow City Region Innovation Zone that would secure funding for the project until March 2030.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drive all necessary recruitment for CTA personnel needed to keep the centre running at full headcount allocation.
  2. Provide leadership for the broader IA team to ensure the CTA IA programme and range of CTA IA sub-projects are delivered on time and within budget. Develop a range of KPIs that can be used to guide the activities of the IA including beyond the pilot phase.
  3. Proactively work with the relevant PIs to develop a range of KPIs on goal setting and ongoing performance management of the engineering team, ensuring effective delivery across multiple projects.
  4. Lead on effective and timely engagement, consultation and influencing across the internal stakeholder groups and external partners to ensure successful project delivery and the realisation of key project outcomes within the required timescales.
  5. Working with the Project Manager, provide effective oversight of project management and administration, ensuring it is maintained efficiently and addresses all key elements.
  6. Together with the Chair and the Project Manager, lead the business of the CTA IA Steering Group including the effective coordination of all work-packages across the CTA IA Programme, seeking updates on progress as required, to ensure project success and minimise risk.
  7. Working with the Project Manager, ensure the CTA IA risk register is maintained, liaising effectively with all key stakeholders and owners of risks in order that all risks are actively and timeously managed.
  8. Have oversight of the resource requirements to deliver the project, raising concerns with the CTA IA Leadership team where there are issues of either capacity, capability, or both, making and implementing recommendations for resolution to ensure successful delivery.
  9. Proactively maintain and develop customer relationships. Building upon an existing core of industry partners, expand and consolidate the CTA IA project portfolio and associated industrial engagement of the CTA IA Pilot, raising direct industrial and grant funding in support of associated research and commercialisation activities.
  10. Work strategically with the CTA IA Academic Leadership Team to identify and agree areas which are priority for new projects/collaboration that can sustain the Centre. This will include identifying and developing new projects and negotiating financial support for these from industry and/or funding bodies.
  11. Drive strategy development for delivery and future sustainability of the overall CTA IA programme.
  12. Lead the bid proposal process including bid writing and bid management.
  13. Line management responsibility for the CTA Project Manager and the CTA Engineering team.
  14. Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as required by the JWNC Director and JWNC Director of Strategy.
