Description:

At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world’s leading industrial companies and scientific research communities to image, analyse and manipulate materials down to the atomic and molecular level. Our customers use our NanoScience ultra-low temperature and high magnetic field environments to go beyond what was once thought possible, whether that’s creating Nobel Prize winning materials or developing quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
We are offering the opportunity for an engineering or physics degree student to join us for a year in industry placement, working in our cryogenic engineering team on low temperature, superconducting magnet systems. This is an excellent opportunity to gain first hand experience in the design, development, and validation of our complex systems.
The opportunity
You will contribute to the process of ensuring that our designs meet customer specifications, by supporting in the assessment of the customer’s requirements, (what do those changes look like and how will they impact on the current design), designing new elements, and considering how the changes will be tested to ensure validation. Whilst you are with us, you can expect to get involved with all aspects of a customer order from design to manufacture, test and validation. Together with the cryogenic engineering team, you will interact with the following teams, Design Office, Project, wider engineering, and Test.
About You
This placement, starting in summer 2024, would suit an individual that is taking a relevant degree subject such as engineering or physics and requires an industrial placement for their third year. It would be ideal if you had knowledge of mechanical design, design processes and CAD, however training will be provided. Your ability to work as part of a team will be essential.
Benefits
In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments offers flexible working hours and a half-day on Fridays. We also offer 25 days annual leave, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, and a flexible benefits package that you can tailor to your own requirements. We also invest in our talented employees by supporting them in their ongoing career and development so that they reach their full potential. We care and work hard to provide a workplace where you can grow and learn. #LI-JR
